R Ashwin of India has tested positive for Covid-19 and has yet to travel to England for the upcoming Edgbaston Test, which is set to take place from July 1 to 5.

Ashwin is currently quarantined and will only join the squad once all protocol requirements have been met. On June 16, the rest of the Indian team left for England.

“Ashwin has not traveled with the group to the United Kingdom because he tested positive for Covid-19 prior to departure,” a BCCI source informed PTI. “But we are optimistic that he will recuperate in time for the July 1 Test match. He may, however, miss the practice game against Leicestershire.”

The remainder of the squad has already arrived in Leicester and has begun working with bowling coach Paras Mhambrey and batting coach Vikram Rathour.

After ending the T20I series against South Africa, Rahul Dravid, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer arrived in London and will now go to Leicester on Tuesday.

The Ireland-bound side, led by VVS Laxman, will depart for Dublin on either June 23 or 24, after a three-day vacation. India will play two Twenty20 Internationals against Ireland in Dublin on June 26 and 28.

The Test team will then face England in Birmingham to finish the five-match Test series that ended abruptly last year, with India presently leading 2-1. Following the Edgbaston Test, India and England will play three ODIs and three T20Is.
