The Bangladesh Cricket Board has opted to rest T20I captain Mahmudullah during the forthcoming Zimbabwe tour. In his absence, Nurul Hasan will captain the T20I team.
BCB president Nazmul Hasan recently stated that the board would meet with Mahmudullah to consider his immediate future following the senior batter’s lengthy slump as both a player and captain. In reality, in an exclusive interview with Cricbuzz, team director Khaled Mahmud stated that the administration was dissatisfied with Mahmudullah’s captaincy.
On Friday (July 22), BCB officials met with Mahmudullah at a city hotel and later revealed their plan to rest their usual T20I captain.
“We have decided that Nurul Hasan will captain the team in the forthcoming T20Is,” Khaled said after the meeting. ‘Sohan will not be leading the team in the World Cup. ‘We felt the T20 squad needed a fresh start because they were underperforming, and we want the new lads to express themselves,’ he said.
Along with Mahmudullah, seasoned keeper-bat Mushfiqur Rahim has been left out of the T20I team, despite being included in the three-match ODI series that follows the T20Is. Veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has dropped out of the Zimbabwe tour, but Cricbuzz understands he may assume captaincy duties in the Asia Cup.
Meanwhile, Hasan Mahmud was named to the ODI squad, while Ebadot Hossain was dropped.
