The West Indies have picked three uncapped players to their Test team for their home match against Bangladesh on June 16, 2022. Devon Thomas, the wicketkeeper batter, Gudakesh Motie, and bowler Anderson Phillip are among those on the team. While Devon Thomas and Gudakesh Motie have already represented the West Indies in limited-overs cricket, Anderson Phillip has yet to make his debut in any format.
Jason Holder set to miss the Bangladesh tour:
West Indies will also be without experienced allrounder Jason Holder, who has sought a break.
“CWI has accepted allrounder Jason Holder’s request for a time of rest and recovery, thus he is unavailable for selection. As a result, he will miss Bangladesh’s all-format tour of the West Indies “Cricket West Indies issued a statement (CWI).
Furthermore, the roster does not contain Kemar Roach, who suffered an injury while playing in the English County Championship and will now have to pass a fitness test. “If he is passed fit,” CWI noted, “he will be included as the 13th member in the Test squad.”
Shamarh Brooks and Veerasammy Permaul were left out of the West Indies side that defeated England earlier this year. Roston Chase and Jomel Warrican, who were both dropped before the England series, have been named to the President’s XI, which will face Bangladesh in a practice game before the series begins.
Desmond Haynes, the chief selector, commented on the pick, saying, “Devon Thomas has been pounding on the door for a while now. He has performed admirably in our franchise cricket system, and we see this as an excellent opportunity to give him a shot. Raymon Reifer is also in the squad, as you can see. He is another player who has performed admirably in the four-day competition and against England (earlier this year). So, once again, we are providing opportunities to performers. Gudakesh Motie is one of those people that bowl well, and we believe this will be a terrific opportunity for him to participate.”
The West Indies are now sixth in the World Test Championship, while Bangladesh is ninth. They will play three Tests.
“We’ll be seeking World Test Championship points against Bangladesh, which will be crucial. It would be advantageous for us to take advantage of our home advantage and win both Test matches and collect those points “Haynes stated
