Star Allrounder and World Best Captain Dane van Niekerk dropped from the South African Women’s squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup squad as she failed to complete a 2 km run in the given times.

Sune Luus is set to lead South African Women in ICC Women’s T20 World. Cup 2023 in absence of Dane van Niekerk, She played her last International game in 2021 and has been out for a long period because of her broken ankle. Chloe Tryon was named deputy/ vice Captain of the team for the T20 World Cup 2023.

She recovered from her ankle injury but dropped from South Africa Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 squad as she failed in Fitness Test.

“Dane did not meet the minimum requirement for the 2-kilometer time trial. The management assisted her in trying to get there but she did not meet the minimum requirement. Her skill set of Dane as a cricketer will always be missed on the cricket field. We have reminded her of that. We also appreciate the effort she tried to put into meeting her fitness level.

“It’s about remaining consistent with our decisions. Many other players have gone down this route. Everyone is quite familiar with the situation and what is required. In December, we set it out clearly with where she needs to be.”
